The Best Kindle Unlimited Books Right Now: October 2026

Kindle Unlimited moves fast. Books join, books leave, and the US lists you see on TikTok don't always match what's actually in the Australian catalogue.

So we checked. Every book below was free to borrow on Kindle Unlimited in Australia when we looked on 20 October 2026, and every one has spent time on the Australian Kindle charts in the past month. KU titles do rotate out, so if one has gone by the time you get to it, the price on Amazon will tell you.

New to KU and still deciding? Start with our honest take on whether Kindle Unlimited is worth it in Australia.

Romantasy

The Lion and the Deathless Dark, Carissa Broadbent. A new Crowns of Nyaxia novel and the first book in the Bloodborn Duet. Ten years of war between humans and vampires, under a night that never ends. Kyrene is a bounty hunter carrying a sword blessed by the goddess of justice, and one crime later, both mortals and gods want her dead.

Brimstone, Callie Hart. Book two of Fae & Alchemy. Saeris is now queen of the vampire court, she's needed back in Zilvaren, and going home would probably kill her. Then there's Fisher. If you haven't started, Quicksilver is on KU too.

Blood of Hercules, Jasmine Mas. Alexis Hert has only ever been a survivor. One blood test lands her in the Spartan War Academy, where immortality has to be won in the Coliseum. Dark academy, Greek mythology, and a series opener.

Also free on KU right now:

  • The Never King, Nikki St. Crowe. Book one of Vicious Lost Boys, the dark Peter Pan series.
  • The Crimson Moth, Kristen Ciccarelli. You may know it by its US title, Heartless Hunter.
  • Bewitched, Laura Thalassa.

Fantasy

Dungeon Crawler Carl, Matt Dinniman. Aliens flatten every building on Earth and turn the survivors into contestants on an intergalactic game show set in a trap-filled dungeon. Carl, a Coast Guard veteran, goes in with his ex-girlfriend's prize-winning cat, Princess Donut. It sounds ridiculous. It has also been one of the steadiest sellers on the Australian fantasy chart for weeks.

He Who Fights with Monsters 13, Shirtaloon and Travis Deverell. Out 6 October. Jason Asano goes back to Earth, and this time nothing on it can stop him. For long-time readers only: if you're new, go back to book one.

The Sword of Kaigen, M. L. Wang. A standalone about a family of warriors on the edge of an empire, fighters who can raise the sea and wield blades of ice. Readers compare it to The Poppy War and Avatar. Bring tissues.

Thriller and mystery

The Witch, Freida McFadden. Out 6 October, and yes, it's on Kindle Unlimited in Australia. Julia loses her job and her flat and retreats to Pemberton, her family's seventeenth-century estate, to keep an eye on her grandmother. Every night the grandfather clock stops at exactly 3:41am.

The Butler, Clare Mackintosh. A villa in the South of France, a carefully chosen guest list, and a body in the pool. Baxter has spent twenty-five years as the perfect butler to the very rich. This job is different.

Daisy Darker, Alice Feeney. A family reunion for Nana's eightieth birthday, on Halloween, in a crumbling house on its own tiny island off Cornwall. When the tide comes in, they're cut off for eight hours. Read it before the 31st.

  • The Mother-in-Law, Sally Hepworth. Melbourne author, impossible mother-in-law, and a death that may not be what it looks like.

Romance and fiction

One Moore Time, Mariana Zapata. Out 15 October and straight up the Australian charts. Veronica can spot a hot mess from a mile away, and George Moore, the most decorated swimmer in the world, doesn't know his own bank login. She only wants the commission on his house. He's very nice to her grandma.

Things We Never Got Over, Lucy Score. A runaway bride, a grumpy small-town barber, and an eleven-year-old niece Naomi didn't know she had. The first Knockemout book, and still the one people press into your hands.

The Lost Bookshop, Evie Woods. A bookshop on a quiet Dublin street that only appears to some people, and three strangers who have spent too long as side characters in their own lives. One for the book-lovers' book club.
