The two kinds of clear Kindle case

When people search for a clear Kindle case they usually mean a snap-on shell: a thin piece of clear TPU that clips over the back and leaves the front open. Light, cheap, nearly invisible. It is the style all the sticker threads on Reddit are about.

The second kind is newer. A full case with a front cover, where only the back panel is clear. You keep the cover, the closure and the auto sleep and wake, and the back stays see-through. Ours is the Clear Back Stand Case, and it gets its own section below.

Why readers go clear

• You chose your Kindle's colour on purpose. A clear case lets it show.

Where clear cases let you down

The problem is the screen. A back-only shell leaves the front of your Kindle open in a tote next to keys and a water bottle, and the screen is the expensive part.
